Juventus started the match on high as they got their first goal in the 4th minute by a header of Cannavaro of a Del Piero free kick. They got close to scoring the second in the first half only when Amauri's shot on goal was stopped on the goalline by Metzelder. On the rebound Amauri dodged past the goalkeeper but was stopped by a last moment tackle by Pepe. Real Madrid put their whole effort and were rewarded at the 41st minute when Raul earned a penalty when tackled by Chiellini in the box.
