Juan Martin Del Potro reached the final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. The sixth seeded Argentinian defeated Andy Roddick second time in two weeks by 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. He will face third seed Andy Murray in the final. Murray defeated Jo Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 7-6(10) in the other semi final. By reaching the final of this tournament Murray ensured rising to the 2nd spot in the ATP rankings to be released this monday toppling Rafael Nadal, qho lost to Del Potro in the quarter final. Murray will thus break the dominance of Federer and Nadal at the top of the list for the last 4 years. Federer and Nadal have shared the top two spots between themselves since 18th july 2005.
Del Potro, who won the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington last week, would try to get his seventh career title and third this season. He has lost only once in a final of an ATP tour event and that was in 2008 in Tokyo, where he lost to Thomas Berdych.
Andy Murray will be vying for 13th career title here and this will be his fifth this year if he wins. Murray won in Queen's Club- London, Miami 1000 masters, Rotterdam and Doha.
Murray held the edge in their 4 previous meetings in which he won 3. Del Potro has won only in Madrid masters this year but got beaten up in Miami masters. Last year Murray won both their encounters in US Open quarter final and Rome masters.
