[tennis] Sybille Bammer and Flavia Penetta End Week With WTA Crowns

Italian No.1 Flavia Penetta won her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title on home soil Sunday, routining countrywoman and good friend Sara Errani in straight sets for the Internazionali Femminili di Palermo crown.

Pennetta, the top seed at the International-level tournament, didn't drop a single set en route to the final and kept that trend going there, hitting her big serve and groundstrokes with authority and few errors during a 6-1 6-2 rout, and winning nearly two thirds of the total points in the 71-minute match. It was revenge in a sense for Pennetta, who had lost to Errani in the semifinals one year earlier.

While in Prague Sybille Bammer snapped up the second Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title of her career on Sunday afternoon, edging Francesca Schiavone in straight sets in the final of the ECM Prague Open.

Bammer, the second seed at the International-level tournament, was nearly ousted twice earlier in the week, rallying from 6-2 5-2 down in her first round match against Tsvetana Pironkova before winning, 2-6 7-6(2) 7-5, then surviving a 7-5 5-7 7-5 duel against No.7 seed Lucie Hradecka in the quarterfinals.
