14th seed Marin Cilic was the biggest victim in the first round of Roger's Cup in Montreal as he lost to Mikhail Youzhny 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1. Gael Monfils improved his 3-0 head to head record over Marat Safin with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win.
Big serving Croat Ivo Karlovic was also shown the door in the first round. Karlovic was defeated by Tommy Haas 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 in the first round tie. Lleyton Hewitt also followed Karlovic later when he was defeated by Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-1, 6-4.Among others to bow out in their first match were Dudi Sela, Thomas Berdych, Feliciano Lopez.
The top seeds played their first matches in the second round and all of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko won their matches.
